'Dragon Quest’ Heroes Release Date: DLC Available for Free; Post-Launch Content Included On Disc

Game developer Square Enix on Monday has announced that the free downloadable content episodes for the "Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe" and the "Blight Below" will be included on disc when the game releases in both Europe and North America this October. The company has also announced that it will be free of charge.

With this, avid fans and players have more reasons to be excited as the game's release date draws near, iDigital Times said.

"The DLC episodes become available once you've completed the main story up to a certain point and by meeting a few conditions. Most of them will be available to play after beating the king hydra, so you might want to keep an eye out for some letters to arrive at the post office. And if you're thinking, why would there be a post office in 'Dragon Quest Heroes,' well, how else are the heroes going to get mail!? Anyway, these letters might be requests for help or even challenges, and if you're up to try them, the rewards are going to be awesome!" Square Enix announced via its blog, describing the methods on how to unlock the game's free episode.

Gematsu has outlined some of the game's episodes that players will be able to unlock once they have completed a portion of the campaign. These are as follows:

  • Alena's Episode - Players who have completed the Alena's episode will be able to get Alena's original "Dragon Quest IV" costume. It was said that Alena's episode will allow her to compete for the Colissea Cup. Aside from these, players will be able to obtain an alternate arranged costume and rare accessories for both Tsarevna and Kiryl.
  • Bjørn Battle - In this battle, players will be able to meet Bjørn the Behemoose. Bjørn is said to be the "largest bosses" in the game's series, and he appeared first in "Dragon Quest V" as a terrible evil that Nera's family sealed away.
  • Great Demon Lord Zoma Battle - In this game's episode, players will meet The Great Demon Lord Zoma, which is called the "final boss of 'Dragon Quest III.'" Other episodes include the Nokturnus Battle, Psaro Battle and the playable character Saro.

"Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe" and the "Blight Below" will be launched on Oct. 13 in North America and Oct. 16 in Europe for PlayStation 4.
