'Fifty Shades Darker' Spoilers & Cast News: Charlie Hunnam Shares An Emotional Story With 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Director Sam Taylor-Johnson

"Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam recently opened up about the emotional moment he shared with "Fifty Shades of Grey" (FSOG) director Sam Taylor-Jonshon.

In an interview with V Man, Hunnam said that he somehow regretted declining to play the role of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey." However, the actor's busy schedule at that time reportedly made it impossible for him to take on any new characters.

Hunnam decided to break the news to "FSOG" director Taylor-Johnson herself by calling her on the phone.

"I called her and we both cried our eyes out on the phone for 20 minutes. I needed to tell her that this was not going to work... There was a lot of personal stuff going on in my life that left me on real emotional shaky ground and mentally weak. I just got myself f*cking overwhelmed and I was sort of having panic attacks about the whole thing," he said.

Meanwhile, Hunnam also clarified that he didn't decline to play the role of Christian Grey because it would require him to do intimate scenes with Dakota Johnson. Hunnam reminded fans that he previously appeared in the series "Queer as Folk" where he was required to strip down.

"When I was 18 I was getting f*cked in the ass, completely naked on national TV, you know?" he said.

In other news, Hunnam also revealed that he declined "Fifty Shades of Grey" because he already committed to star in Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak," according to Variety.

"I'd given Guillermo my word, over a year before, that I was going to do this film. People were saying, 'Are you crazy? Guillermo still has got four months to recast, it's the fourth lead, you can go do this instead.' I said, 'I can't. He's my friend. I've done a film with him, I gave him my word.'"

"Crimson Peak" is slated to hit theaters in the United States this October.
