Minions is Now the Second Top Grossing Animated Movie Ever

The movie "Minions" by Universal Studios and Illumination was a big success in China over the weekend, garnering an estimated $20.1 million, on its opening day alone. It is considered as the biggest opening day for an animated film in China. Consequently, the Minion's worldwide box office total is now $1.08 billion putting minions on the 15th spot in terms of being the biggest films. Moreover, it has officially toppled the record of Pixar's Toy Story 3. Minions is now second to the biggest animated movie "Frozen" which made $1.27 billion globally.

In addition, basing on the local currency, the Yuan, Minions' first in China is remarkably whopping 44 percent higher than the three-day debut of the Chinese animated movie Monkey King: Hero Is Back which opened with 86.5 million Yuan, according to Deadline.com. Minions is in fact the latest Hollywood movie to have been allowed to screen in China since the "blackout" period came to an end last August. So Kevin, Stuart and Bob were able to hit China and visit the Great Wall.

Speaking of how well the movie is doing domestically, according to Entertainment Weekly, it earned a sum of $115.7 million when Minions debuted in July in the United States. It would have been the number one biggest opening in the U.S., but it is $5.6 million short of "Shrek the Third's" $121.6 million. Up to the present, the Minions have made more than $331 million in the United States alone.

With the movie "Minions," the series of success for Universal has become "ba-ba-ba-babananas" together with films "Jurassic World," "Furious 7," "Pitch Perfect 2," "Fifty Shades of Grey," and "Straight Outta Compton." To date, Universal Studios holds the record for having the highest-grossing year ever for a movie studio, with more than $5.53 billion income at the global box office since the month August of this year.
