South African police charged Olympic gold-medalist Oscar Pistorius, with his girlfriend's murder, USA Today reported.
Reeva Steekamp was found shot and killed Thursday morning in his home. The 26-year-old Pistorius, won the hearts of millions when he became the first double amputee to compete in the Olympics.
He was dubbed "Blade Runner" for having carbon fiber prosthetics/ According to Pistorius' website, he was born without a fibula, a bone that runs outside the leg between the knee joint and ankle on both his legs.
After his histroic feat, he gained huge stardom back home and became an ambassador for young athletes with similar conditions.
South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee couldn't comment on the recent murder but told USA Today, "our thoughts are with the respective families at this time."
Steenkamp, 30, was a model and appeared on South Africa's reality TV show, "Tropika Island of Treasure 5."
According to South African police spokesperson, Brigadier Denise Beukes, Pistorius arrived at his house in Pretoria after his girlfriend's death but "there is no other suspect involved," The Associated Press reported.
Pistorius' representatives didn't release any comments as of yet.
South Africa's "Beeld" newspaper and a local radio station first broke the news. A 9 mm pistol was found at the scene of the crime, according to police spokeswomen Captain Sarah Mcirca.
Steenkamp was shot in the head and arm, she stated. Police also indicated there were other reports of domestic disputes reported from Pistorius' home.
TIME magazine named Pistorius one of the world's 100 most influential people. He gained major brand sponsorships from Nike and Oakely. Even a deal with French fashion designeer Thierry Mugler.
