Teacher Suspended For Lassoing Student in Class, Faces Possible Criminal Charges

Imagine a show-and-tell gone wrong. A history teacher at a Texas middle school was suspended for lassoing one of her students, reported New York Post.

The male teacher at Schrade Middle School in Rowlett, Tex. was demonstrating how cowboys use a lasso to corral herds on Wednesday, and a 13-year-old boy who agreed to volunteer was asked to run. As he ran, the teacher whipped the rope around the boy's neck, leaving bruises and marks.

The boy was allowed to go home and his parents were extremely upset from the injuries and said he needed a few days to recover from the horrific incident.

The Rowlett Police Department is now looking into possible criminal charges against the teacher. The teacher's name was not released, but Houston's News8 reported he feels extremely bad and agreed to never use lasso in a classroom again.

"This is not something that we feel was malicious, it was not intentional," Garland Independent School District's spokesman, Chris Moore, told reporters. Extremely unfortunate and extremely poor judgment."

The school also said they were going to conduct their own investigation.

The Christian Post reported that most of the public seemed divided about the situation that took place. While the boy did volunteer to be lassoed, the teacher demonstrated a lack of clear thought and judgment.

"Didn't the kid volunteer to be lassoed?" Kristin Douglas Wood comment to News 8.

"Parents are training their kid to always whine when he volunteers and it doesn't turn out perfect," Lara Key said.

"Next time, don't volunteer for a 'roping lesson'!" Susan Kaplan Williams said.
