Apple cut the price on the base version of its 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop with "retina" display by $200 as it revamps its top-end laptops.
Apple Inc. said Wednesday that the MacBook Pro with "Retina" display and 128 gigabytes of flash memory will now cost $1,499, down from $1,699. A new model with 256 gigabytes of flash will cost $1,699.
Apple unveiled the new MacBook Pro models last fall. It has flash memory instead of the traditional hard drive, which makes it thinner and lighter.
The company sold 4.1 million Macs in the December quarter, down 21 percent from a year earlier.
Apple also lowered the price of its 13-inch MacBook Air laptop with 256 gigabytes of flash memory to $1,299 from $1,399.
Apple upgraded its 15-inch MacBook Pro with a faster 2.4 gigahertz quad-core processor and the top-end 15-inch notebook with a new 2.7 gigahertz quad-core processor and 16GB of memory.
