A seafood restaurant in Japan fines customers for leaving leftovers and the surcharge will be given to the fisherman who caught their food, according to reports.
RocketNews24 reports that the owner of the restaurant also sends his staff to do training on a fishing boat so they appreciate the conditions of the fishermen.
The restaurant, The Hachikyo, is so serious about recognizing the hard work of fisherman who catch the food that they make sure to convey that on their menus.
"The working conditions for fishermen are harsh and so dangerous that it's not unknown for lives to be lost.
"To show our gratitude and appreciation for the food they provide, it is forbidden to leave even one grain of rice in your bowl.
"Customers who do not finish their tsukko meshi must give a donation."
The tsukko meshi - a bowl of rice topped with all-you-can-eat salmon roe - costs 1,890 yen ($20).
According to the report, a waitress at the restaurant said that "hardly anyone leaves their tsukko meshi unfinished."
