Real estate developer Tim Egkan was found dead, lying in the gutter of Central Stockton.
According to Recordnet, a brief police report stated that police officers were in the area of West Poplar and North Lincoln streets about 2:08 a.m. Sunday, when they were approached by a person who told them that "there was a man lying in the gutter" who appeared dead. The report went on to state that the officers located an unresponsive adult male with obvious signs of trauma. Though the Medics responded to the emergency, they were unable to resuscitate the victim.
Egkan's body was found in front of a medical office on Poplar, just east of Lincoln and one block south of Dameron Hospital. Officers could not say how long Egkan's body had been in the street, why he was in the neighborhood, or what may have led to the altercation.
The police is waiting for the autopsy to shed some light to the crime. They are currently pursuing the case as homicide.
"We know that he was involved in some sort of altercation. We are waiting for the autopsy to get the exact cause of death. Hopefully after the autopsy we will be able to put out more information," said Officer Joe Silva.
Egkan is the chief brand officer of Ten Space Developers. Ten Space Developers plan to revitalize the blight scenes of downtown Stockton to a more developed city, with its own housing, entertainment, jobs, retail and dining.
"Welcome from civilization ... You're in Stockton now," was a line used by Egkan when he accompanied a group of San Francisco Bay Area artists on a tour of one of his company's buildings, just hours before his shocking demise.
"Tim is a guy you would see walking around downtown every day. He would shop downtown, spend his time working downtown. Obviously, his heart was in developing downtown Stockton," said Mayor Anthony Silva, as he laments the death of one of the few "who believed in Stockton and what Stockton's potential is."
