There hasn't been much talk about "Heroes" following its cancellation in 2010, until it stirred renewed interest with the announcement of the new season last year. The return of the franchise promises old and new fans alike much to be enjoyed.
Based on Netflix.com's report, old fans will be able to catch up with some of their favorite heroes, including Noah Bennet a.k.a. H.R.G played by Jack Coleman who will be present in all 13 episodes. Masi Oka is also reprising his role as Hiro, one of the favorites from the original season, for three episodes. The Haitian played by Jimmy Jean-Louis will be in six episodes. Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh) and Christine Rose (Angela Petrelli) are making a comeback as well.
What happened to the heroes who are still alive in the preceding season? Why are they not coming back?
Tim Kring, executive producer of "Heroes Reborn" said he tried for some, but unfortunately, the others are just not part of the script. There is also conflict in scheduling because some of the actors are involved in other things as of the moment.
"The story was really the thing that dictated who would come back," Kring said at the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour. "The show was always designed to be very elastic in its premise. I always saw it as a show that could repopulate itself. I wanted to make it something that was easy for brand new viewers to watch. For them, caring about new characters is just as important as having former cast in the show."
"Heroes Reborn" is introducing new cast members including Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green.
The last season of "Heroes" ended, "Evos" or the people with powers are on the run from hunters who wanted to wipe them all after a year since the terrorist attack that ruined the city of Odessa, Texas. Entertainment Weekly said it is the main reason why Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet) is not returning to the new series. Her character died a year before the time where the new season starts. Claire's father, H.R.G. will be the guide for new viewers as he will be making a callback of those memories in the past.
Forbes said "Heroes Reborn" will not yet play to fans who gave up before the previous season ended and to new viewers. But it will after a couple of episodes, particularly with storylines that are not tied to the original series. Entertainment Weekly also said that "Heroes Reborn" picks up in real time, that is, five years after Claire let the public know about her powers.
Kring said, "Because we didn't get to have that fifth season, I did always have that in my mind that there was an unfinished nature to it... This world has become a very different place. There's something really great about this: This is not the fifth season, this is actually the 10th season as if there were seasons in-between. I had always wanted to tell the story of when the world discovers these people."
"Heroes Reborn" premiers on Sept. 24 as a two-hour episode from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on NBC.
