Rumor has it that Samsung is gearing up to release its new smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S7. This new rumor has surfaced on Tuesday days after Apple launched its latest smartphones, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
The news was first reported by tech blog website Sam Mobile, saying that the rumored smartphone has been codenamed as "Project Lucky." The smartphone is likely to be launched by the company on February 2016, a report from iDigital Times said.
"We heard rumors that Samsung was opting for a new development method to fast track work on the Galaxy S7, and the early launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ certainly enhanced the possibility that we might see the next Galaxy S flagship make an early appearance as well. A Samsung smartphone with the name "Lucky-LTE" appeared on the Geekbench benchmark database recently, and we can now confirm that this device is the Galaxy S7, which has been codenamed Project Lucky internally," Sam Mobile reported.
According to iDigital Times, the rumored Samsung Galaxy S7 will feature the company's Exynos 8890 chip, which was codenamed as M1 Mongoose, with a clocking speed of 2.3GHz. It was said that the upcoming smartphone will have another variant that will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip. The website noted that the smartphone is expected to have an expandable storage capacity.
"Samsung implemented its super fast UFS 2.0 storage in handsets like the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6, which made including expandable storage impossible. However, the Korean manufacturer may have figured out how to keep its new storage protocol and give Android diehards the expandable storage they sorely desire," the report added.
In addition to its massive storage capacity, the Galaxy 7 will reportedly likely include a dual-camera module which was featured also by Samsung's rivals such as HTC One M8 and ZTE Axon. The dual-camera module will allow smartphone users to have a seamless control of editing photos using the company's upcoming smartphone.
"Finally, Samsung is supposedly testing a new 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera on the Galaxy S7, and also a project called the "all lens cover." We have no idea what this project is; it's perhaps a cover that will add additional lenses for the camera on to the phone, but we admit we're in the dark about what the actual purpose will be," Sam Mobile noted.
