'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Air Date & Spoilers: The CW Series Found Inspiration From 'Game Of Thrones'

"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec recently revealed that she drew inspiration for The CW series from "Game of Thrones."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Plec shared that she would always watch the HBO show.

"At first I said well, 'How could there be a show without Ned Stark?' And then by season 21 I was like, 'Ned who?' And then after the Red Wedding I was like, 'How could there be a show without the Starks?' And then by season 4 I was just as invested in other characters, so there's a way there that if you can tell good stories, people can survive the loss of their favorite. And we may come to learn that's not true for our show, we'll see, but it feels good," she said.

Meanwhile, Plec also talked about Nina Dobrev's exit from the series after six seasons. According to her, even though it was sad to see the actress leave "The Vampire Diaries," her exit paved the way for other characters to come into the forefront of the show.

"When you're working with an ensemble of people that you really want to showcase, that's really hard to do when our show is really operating around this triangle of characters," she said.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will focus on Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan's (Paul Wesley) relationship. The series will also feature Damon (Ian Somerhalder) relying on Bonnie (Kat Graham) in the wake of Elena's demise.

In other news, there are rumors that Somerhalder will also be exiting the series after Season 7. Just recently, the actor posted a series of photos via Instagram that hinted on his desire to pursue other things. Fans immediately reacted on the possibility and got worried over the fact that "The Vampire Diaries" couldn't survive without both Elena and Damon next season.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 8.
