Movie star and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been named the new host of "The Celebrity Apprentice," NBC confirmed the news on Monday, according to Los Angeles Times.
Schwarzenegger replaces real estate mogul, Donald Trump with whom NBC parted ways in June. In separating, the network cited Trump's presidential run is the reason why they decided to let him go.
The actor is said to be taking over the reality show during 2016- 2017 season. NBC officials though are still finalizing the date of the transition.
Apparently, the former governor is a huge fan of the reality TV series. In a statement, he wrote, "I have always been a huge fan of 'The Celebrity Apprentice' and the way it showcases the challenges and triumphs of business and teamwork."
As for the network, they are very thrilled to welcome Schwarzenegger on the show. In a statement, Paul Telegdy, NBC's president for alternative and late night programming said, "Arnold Schwarzenegger is the epitome of a global brand in entertainment and business, and his accomplishments in the political arena speak for themselves."
"It was Arnold's personal passion for the format that Mark Burnett and Donald Trump built over the last decade, as well as his fresh take on how to take it to new heights for today's audience, that made him the man to hire," he added.
With Schwarzenegger, NBC is hopeful to successfully restart a franchise, after it was put on hold, after Trump entered the Republican race for president, CNN reported.
After the news was confirmed, Trump gave his blessing to the new host through Twitter. He wrote, "Congrats to my friend @Schwarzenegger who is doing next season's Celebrity Apprentice. He'll be great & will raise lots of $ for charity."
Trump's famous 'Apprentice' line is "you're fired," while Arnold is best known for the phrases "I'll be back" and "Hasta la vista, baby" in the 'Terminator' series. Now, fans are so eager to hear what might be his farewell line for the show.
