In less than a month, "The Flash" will return to CW for its second season but executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has already given away some juicy details about Jay Garrick, played by Teddy Sears. The veteran "Flash" who will be joining the cast of characters in the upcoming season.
Speaking of Jay Garrick's impact to the second season Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly, "There's a little condescension from Jay. Jay is a little bit more world-weary and he's seen a lot. He's been The Flash for a while, so he's a little further along in his career. He's seen a lot of darkness, and it's jaded him a little bit. He thinks Barry can be a bit naïve about the way the world works."
The extended trailer, published on Sept. 10 in YouTube, shows Garrick coming to Central City to warn Barry and his team that Zoom is arriving. Jay tells Barry how he has generated a "bridge, a portal" that allows villains from Jay's world escape to Central City under the mandate of Zoom to kill Scarlet Speedster.
Furthermore, speaking of the dynamic relationship between Jay and Barry, Kreisberg said, "One of Barry's greatest gifts, and truly it's one of Grant's greatest gifts too, is he's got such an infectious energy and such a purity of heart that he makes you want to be a better person. As much as Barry learns from Jay about being The Flash, Jay learns just as much about being a good person from Barry."
In the comics, Jay Garrick was the first "Flash" who served as an inspiration to his successor Barry. They were teamed up in numerous occasion so in the TV adaptation, the creators thought it would be a great idea to add the original Flash.
"Jay Garrick has never been portrayed in live action, [but] now that we established our Flash, we thought it would be great to bring in the original Flash to create a brand new relationship with Barry," series executive producer Kreisberg said during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel last July, according to Deadline.
