Porsche Announces Electric Concept Car, Eyeing Tesla for a Showdown

Porsche unveiled an all-electric concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it sent shockwaves in the auto industry that know all too well Tesla is currently the king of electric automobiles.

Porsche just poked a stick inside the hornet's nest when it announced the Mission E concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. According to Wired, the Mission E is Porsche's initial foray into the all-electric car segment currently being dominated by Tesla Motors. The concept car revealed a combination of beauty, range and power all bundled into a nice little package that would surely get the attention of Mister Elon Musk. Porsche outlines the range of their concept car at 310 miles with the ability to race from zero to 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds.

By comparison, the Tesla Model S can actually go to 300 miles and can take drivers to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. These impressive specs belong to the P90D model of Tesla. Another feature of the concept e-car is the ultra-fast charging time. Porsche says their baby can charge to 80 percent in just fifteen minutes which definitely trumps Tesla's Model S. Right now, the real edge in the battle for electric car supremacy still belongs to Tesla since they have the actual car models running and ready for orders.

Meanwhile, Forbes said that the Mission E concept car can produce over 600 horsepower that will be distributed to all four wheels via a torque vectoring system. It automatically brings torque to all wheels. Another innovation included for Porsche's e-car entry is inductive charging. There will be no need for cables and plugs since all owners and drivers need to do is take the car over a base plate and the charging shall begin. But regardless of all the cool stuff Porsche plans to do with their new concept car, Tesla is still running the electric car show, for now.
