'The Divergent Series: Allegiant' Trailer, Spoilers, Release Date: New Mysterious Figure will Play Key Role [Video]

There's no question to the success of "Divergent" and "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Both were able to establish a consistent interest in the young adult sci-fi/dystopia franchise and a worthy start to the ongoing string of film series that are based on the modern YA culture. And next year, "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is going to heighten the drama and thrills of the franchise to the next level as seen in the installment's teaser trailer, screenrant.com reports.

The marketing campaign for the film is beginning to heat up, and just less than a week after news broke that the final two Divergent installments will have different titles (rather than just Allegiant 1 & 2), Summit Entertainment allowed fans to see a glimpse of the teaser trailer for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant." In the footage, there are hints to the dramatic nature of the adventure ahead but also without revealing too much information at this point in the movie's promotional campaign.

In fact, the first half of the "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" trailer is mainly notable moments from the first two Divergent installments. Meanwhile, the final minute of the preview shows the dangers that await our heroes as they leave home (post-apocalyptic Chicago) for the wastelands surrounding it - to learn the truth about the "experiment" behind their society.

If you don't follow the "Divergent series," the last half of the Allegiant teaser won't likely make so much sense. However, avid fans of Veronica Roth's books (and the films based on them) should get fired up for some reveals like the addition of Jeff Daniels as David - a mysterious new figure, who will play a key role in the proceedings of the third and fourth Divergent movies. Daniel will be one of the franchise's roster of seasoned actors - including Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, and Maggie Q amongst its ranks - aside from the series' (and Woodley's) costars Theo James, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort.

"The Divergent Series: Allegiant" will be directed by the same person whose work on the second "Divergent" film was a step in the right direction for this YA franchise - Robert Schwentke. It will hit theatres on March 18, 2016 followed by "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" on March 24, 2017.
