Playstation 4 Price Drop: Game Console Gets Price Cut in Japan, Will Sell for Only $293

Good news for those looking for a great Christmas present: the Playstation 4 just got a 10 percent price drop, but only in Japan (for now!).

Kotaku reports that the 500GB PS4 will be selling for only $293 (or 34,980 yen) from its initial selling price of $335 (or 39,980 yen). This price shall be effective on October 1.

Although there is no word yet if other regions will follow suit, many players are looking forward to the possible drop in prices in their homelands. Engadget foresees the same good news for Europe, as Sony will be a major presence at Paris Games Week. The U.S. is currently selling the same model for $399, while Europe is selling it at $450.

According to The Independent, this drop might be caused by the game console's weaker sales against smartphones, and the company isn't the only one facing such problem.

Due to the increase in users who play more games on their smartphones, Nintendo has attempted to alleviate such issue by partnering with a mobile game developer. The company shall now wait and see if their efforts for luring back their users will work.

In recent Playstation news, Sony announced their newest venture, the Playstation VR (Virtual Reality). It was also previously referred to as "Project Morpheus." Techcrunch shares that it is simply a virtual reality headset. Though there have been no concrete details about it yet, it might be released for retail early next year and will be sold for "beyond several hundred dollars."
