Two new hotels popped up in Netherlands this week, and they're entirely made of sand!
Zand Hotel constructed two sandcastle hotels as part of a sand sculpture festival located in the towns of Sneek, Friesland, Oss, and Brabant.
CNN reported that the massive sand sculptures, each one over eight meters high, took around four weeks to complete. One is modeled after the "Flintstones" Bedrock home, and the other took on a classic Chinese theme with sculptures of dragons and terracotta warriors.
The hotels are actually just two one-bedroom suites, but it is the stuff of every person's childhood fantasy. Both rooms come fully furnished, with windows, electricity, running water, and Wi-Fi. Each suite is sweetly adorned with sophisticated furniture, rivaling any five-star boutique hotel. The living area has a TV, plush seats, coffee tables, and bookshelves. In the bedroom is a comfortable queen bed, decked out with fluffy down pillows and comforters. The bathroom is sleek and ultra-modern, with rainshower heads and glass panels.
More than the interior design, safety is top priority of Zand Hotel. And before anyone goes burying his head in the sand (pun intended), organizers assure the public that their rooms are totally safe. The hotels' basic structures are made of thin walls covered with compact, reinforced sand.
An overnight stay for two costs $168 per night, which includes breakfast and a guided tour of the festival. They will be open until the festival ends on Oct. 4. As of now, both rooms are fully booked, but don't fret! They will be open again in time for next year's festival. Also, Zand Hotel may be planning to bring this novel concept to other parts of the world, as it has already reserved domain names for www.sandhotel.co.uk and www.sandhotel.de.
