"The X-Files" Revival Spoilers: Mulder-Scully Breakup Explained

X-files fans are more than psyched that their favorite series would return next year [2016]. The upcoming series would be filled with twist as the show's primary partnership would be fractured. As per Screen Rant's report, the major cast duo Mulder and Scully have broken up.

"The X-Files" creator Chris Carter made a statement regarding Mulder and Scully's partnership during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He then stated that they would play around with Mulder and Scully's relationship as the upcoming series would progress.

"We do it in an interesting way; we play with that relationship in the event series. We put some of the tension back in that was relieved by them being together. It added to the storytelling opportunities. It's something that I came up with; I had been thinking about it. There was always talk of breaking them up if we did another movie."

Fox then confirmed the duo's split on the upcoming "X-Files Revival" during its summer Television Critics Association Session. It is when they showed a clip from the January premier entitled "My Struggle" which revealed the break up.

During the first part of "X-Files", Scully was paired with Mulder to decode his paranormal findings, but the pair then formed a great bond. They may have kept things platonic up until the duo stopped their selves from kissing during the show's first movie, Fight the Future. It took the pair almost seven seasons to finally kiss. After the series approached the end of the season, it was revealed that Scully was pregnant. After a year, it was finally confirmed that Mulder was the baby's father.

Carter was more than proud of what the creative team has accomplished now that the production of the series is finally done. He then told The Hollywood Reporter:

"We just wrapped the six episodes, and I look and I see that we did 202 episodes of the show, I honestly don't know how we did it. I was exhausted by the end of these six episodes. I think what the show benefited from a lot of youthful energy. I always say about the show that we didn't know what we couldn't do, so we just tried everything. And luckily, we had the people working with us, and for us, that always gave it a shot."
