South African Olympic and paralympian star Oscar Pistorius who is accused of shooting his girlfriend four times on Valentine's Day, is set to apply for bail on Tuesday in Pretoria, according to local media.
Pistorius appeared in court on Friday, when the application was postponed and has held been held at a local police station instead of being taken to prison, according to News24. In the early hours of Thursday morning, his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 30, was shot and killed 4 times at Pistorius' home.
Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair will ask that Pistorius be held without bond and begin laying out his premeditated murder case against Pistorius.
Pistorius father, Henke, has said that Oscar did own a 9mm gun which he kept in his bedroom, but believes he shot Steenkamp after mistaking her for a burglar.
While Pistorius is in court, Steenkamp will be cremated in her hometown of Port Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, South African police believe Pistorius may have beaten his girlfriend with a cricket bat before shooting her.
Yesterday it emerged that detectives are reported to have recovered a bloodied bat from the Paralympic champion's bedroom and to have established that model Reeva Steenkamp's skull had been 'crushed'.
"He (Pistorius) has made it very clear that he would like to send his deepest sympathies to the family of Reeva," the statement said, in the first message attributed to him since his arrest.
"Our thoughts and prayers today should be for Reeva and her family - regardless of the circumstances of this terrible, terrible tragedy," it said.
The murder has left the country stunned as they regard Oscar Pistorius a national hero and known as "blade runner" because of the carbon fiber prosthetic blades he races in. He was born without a fibula in both legs and had his legs amputated below the knee before his first birthday.
