Elizabeth Banks wants to direct the film reboot of the 1970s hit TV show "Charlie's Angels" and is currently talking to Sony to finalize a deal to bring the title to the big screen once again.
The "Walk of Shame" star Elizabeth Banks is negotiating a deal with Sony Pictures that will allow her production company Brownstone to produce a remake of "Charlie's Angels." Sony owns the film rights for the franchise which is an adaptation of ABC's hit crime action series shown in 1976.
According to Variety, the show lasted five seasons and featured stars Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as private investigators working for a mysterious boss they only call "Charlie." Other well-known actors at the time also joined the show either as replacement or addition like Cheryl Ladd who substituted for Fawcett. Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts joined in the succeeding seasons.
In a report by Entertainment Weekly, Banks is warming up to her newfound job as director with her debut project "Pitch Perfect 2" becoming a huge hit in the box office. It even overtook "Mad Max: Fury Road" in the first weekend of its release which has the rookie director already setting her sights on her next movie.
"Charlie's Angels" has already been made into a movie in 2000 which earned a whopping $264 million worldwide. It starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. A sequel followed in 2003, "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" but failed to get the same kind of reception as the first outing. And in 2011, a planned TV remake of the show aired but only lasted four episodes. It featured Minka Kelly, Annie Ilonzeh and Rachael Taylor.
Banks is said to produce the next version of "Charlie's Angels" with her husband, producer Max Handelman. The "Hunger Games" actress is also going to work her directorial magic in the fantasy film "Red Queen."
