Would you sacrifice your life or a bit of it just for a piece of technology? Well for the most of us, it would be a definite 'NO'. However there are some people who would even sell their kidney just to have a piece of the latest smartphone, iPhone 6S in particular.
It was reported via independent that the two friends from China's Jiangsu province, known by their last names as Huang and Wu, were willing to sell their kidneys in order to purchase the latest upgrade of Apple's iPhone, the iPhone 6S. There too much obsession for iPhones led them to find an illegal agent online offering to buy their kidney. However while going to the process of getting checked for any damages on their kidneys, the said illegal agent failed to show up at the rendezvous area. The cancellation of transaction then led Wu to decide that they should both drop the idea of selling their kidney. However, Huang on the other hand was persistent to achieve his desire of having an iPhone 6S through selling his own organ, thus Wu resorted on calling the authorities to stop his friend's idea.
This unusual and unethical happening in relevance to a person's desire for an iPhone is not new event in China. For when iPhone 5 was first released, a couple was charged with human trafficking for accordingly selling three of their newborn babies in order to pay for the smartphone.
This manifestation of a weakening moral fiber is not just an isolated case to be found in China. For with a similar reason, a Saudi man asked his prospective brother-in-law for an iPhone 6 to serve as a dowry for marrying his sister. In response to the request the Saud Ahmad, a Bahrani office clerk replied via ibtimes that;
"We have heard about quite a few things, but an iPhone 6 that has not even hit the markets here is a bit bizarre. We need to promote a culture where marriage should not be used by anyone to get gifts or make profits in any way. If I had been the groom, I would have confronted the brother."
Such act perpetuated for technology's sake surely suggests the pervading and proliferating influence of technological enslavement. And if not properly addressed, man would soon find himself totally enslaved of his own invention making himself less human in the process.
