Samuel Goldwyn’s Beverly Hills Estate Goes to a Mysterious Buyer

The historic Beverly Hills mansion of the film producer and founder of several Hollywood motion picture studios, Samuel Goldwyn, has been sold for $25 million. Built in the 1930s and owned in the mid-1970s by his namesake son and another film producer, Samuel Goldwyn Jr., the stories go that the elder Goldwyn frequently used the estate as a collateral to finance his films and also to entertain some big names during the industry's Golden Age, which include Frank Capra, Charlie Chaplin, Bette Davis, Clark Gable and Cole Porter.

The mansion was listed early this year with a $39 million price tag. Almost two acres in size, it is located behind the Beverly Hills Hotel with a city lights view. The Georgian mansion's size is 11,000 square feet, with six bedrooms and five bathrooms.

Other highlights include a stately galleria entrance, a formal dining room lined with French doors that lead to a brick terrace, a kitchen that will satisfy the most demanding cook, a panelled library that does double-duty as a 35 millimeter screening room. An elegant and curvy staircase leads to a majestic master suite and to three additional bedrooms. The house also features a gym, eating area/study and kitchenette. A guest suite has a private entrance on the main level plus a roomy guest apartment is found above the garage. A gated and landscaped grounds include a sunken, lighted championship tennis court, a trellis-covered patio, footpath, rose garden, swimming pool and a pool house with kitchenette.

Speculations are going around that the new owner is shielded behind an inscrutable corporate concern with a Nashville address. Other sources say Taylor Swift was the buyer, who made an estimated $64 million last year and, no doubt, can easily afford it. Still, another one said the buyer was billionaire, investor and philanthropist Nicholas Berggruen. There was, however, an information gathered that Berggruen backed out of the deal at the last minute. Lastly, there was this item that the new buyer could possibly be television syndication tycoon Richard King whose Holmby Hills mansion is also up for sale at $65 million.
