Two women from East Texas, Houston have been convicted of kidnapping a boy when he was just 8 months old and hiding him for eight years and are now facing up to 20 years in prison for their crime.
A court found Krystle Tanner and her mother, Gloria Walker, guilty of kidnapping in the 2004 disappearance of Miguel Morin, who is now 8, according to the Associated Press.
Tanner knew Miguel because she used to babysit for him and together with her mother, they kidnapped him out of his apartment in 2004 and moved from Central to East Texas in order to avoid detection.
The boy, who was then renamed Jaquan, never attended school because the two women feared that he might be recognized by someone and reveal their crime. Walker also was found guilty of injury to a child, while the jury found Tanner guilty of a lesser charge of reckless injury to a child.
The mother and daughter were caught after Tanner's newborn son in April 2010 tested positive for marijuana, leading authorities to being investigating her and later found out that she had the missing boy. Tanner and Walker were arrested in March 2012.
After Miguel was found, he was turned over to foster care. However, today, he is reunited with his four siblings, all of whom are under the care of a Houston couple, Junita and Joseph Auguillard, as part of a custody agreement.
