What could have made Valentine's Day more romantic than finding $11,060 and spoiling your loved one? That's what happened to a couple who found the loot on Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, but instead of spending it on spa's and fancy restaurants, the honest couple promptly handed it over to the police.
Carlos and Barbara Landeros of Vallejo decided to make a pre-Valentine's Day dinner stop at the Golden Gate Bridge to take in the romantic view. Only, when they pulled into Vista Point, Barbara spotted a black camera bag with no owner in sight. They decided to wait until the owner returned to ensure the expensive looking bag was not stolen.
After 45 minutes of waiting, forcing their dinner planes to take a back seat, they opened the bag only to find a camera lens, credit cards, and finally, an envelope filled with $11,060.
"I got nervous at first, it could be drug money," Barbara told NBCBayArea.com. "I was scared."
They decided to hand it over to the San Francisco Police Department who said they were very impressed by the couples honesty. Using the credit cards, they were able to trace the bag to a Chinese tourist who was obviously very elated to have the bag returned to him.
Unfortunately for the couple, they were stuck in traffic after all this running around that they missed their planned romantic Valentine's dinner and ended up grabbing a quick bite at a McDonald's. However, the tourist has sent the couple a check as a reward for doing the right thing, so they may just be able to get their special dinner after all.
