Rumors have been heard that a foldable Smartphone from Samsung will soon emerge, but look for more detailed information on these things. In the latter half of 2014, a patent that was filed in the same year shows that how such a Smartphone can be constructed which is only one of several patents applications.
From the patent illustrations, the foldable screen seems that it will sit on top of a textile-like material. There is another patent application which shows that it may be opened in a laptop-like configuration, instead of opening flat. The design of the foldable Smartphone looks like it uses a different hinge mechanism and an "elastic unit'' to keep the screen looking like fully stretched.
GSM Arena said Samsung continues to look for several avenues - the first one is aimed at clamshell Smartphones, while the other can be bent like in a laptop position. As the patents were made available a year ago, the actual devices are expected to come out as early as January, if rumors can be trusted.
Rumor has it that Samsung is going to release early next year its first foldable Smartphone, codenamed "Project Valley.'' This may sound impossible to believe, but a recent patent from Samsung spotted by Patently Mobile reveals how the Korean company could pull it off.
Techno Buffalo reported that Samsung's flexible OLED technology combines the theoretical design with a new hinge setup. The foldable design of this Smartphone features a pair of springs on either side of the hinge to power the entire system. The rumored patent only surfaced last month after it was filed in 2014 when Samsung first started teasing the possibility of a foldable Smartphone.
