As the turn of the new season unveils for "Castle," on Sept 21, new roles of characters and also new cast members were already revealed before like Toks Olagundoye and Sunkrish Bala. New showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter talk about some of the details for the upcoming episodes from their interview with TV Line. Some of the highlights of the interview for the showrunners reveal what will be expected to the series' premiere episodes and how Stana's late join in filming gave out a "great mystery."
Warning: Spoilers will be revealed for the upcoming season 8 of "Castle."
Showrunners Alexi Hawley and Paul Winter discussed on the interview that they will be making the crimes in the series to be simpler so that they'll be able to focus more on the characters. And one of which they want to work out on are for the story of Castle and Beckett.
Hawley said from the interview that, "The important thing to say bout them is: The show has always been and will always be about their love affair, but we're looking to add some drama to it, some spark to it. So we're going to have fun. It's going to be emotional at times, it will be romantic, it will be everything."
Hawley also said something about the part of Beckett that still wants to solve the murder of her mother. And this as hinted will be seen on the first part of the season. As Hawley spoiled, "What we can say about it is that, as a character, Kate Beckett spent her entire adult life obsessed with solving her mother's murder. After that was put to rest, she tried to go on and live as if she could just close that door and not be that person anymore. And what we're seeing at the beginning of this season is that that obsession, that part of her DNA, is still there, so she needs to deal with that in a way that impacts their relationship."
Apart from this, they also talked about how Stana's late involvement in the filming made the showrunners thought of making her "a mystery." Hawley said, "It did, but it actually ended up being a real opportunity. It allowed us to sort of bookend her in the first episode (which is titled "XY"), create a great mystery of "What's going on with Beckett?" that ultimately pays off in the second episode ("XX") in a big way."
Watch "Castle" season 8 premiering on Sept. 21 on ABC.
