Rumor has it that Edge of Tomorrow, a futuristic film featuring an alien that can reset the day and see the future starring superstar Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, is about to get a sequel.
The movie was proven to be a success when it hit theaters worldwide, garnerning local and international success. Because of this, it would make sense for the creators of the film to come up with a sequel. MTV reportedly asked Tom Cruise, while he was in New York City promoting "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation", about the idea. According to MTV, Cruise said, "I pitched it to Christopher McQuarrie and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman. We were there one night and I was like, 'I've got an idea for it.' ... It could be so much fun. Gotta get Emily Blunt. I was like, 'Emily, please.' She was like, 'Give me another year, please." However having an idea can still be a bit far from materialization.
On the other hand, Emily Blunt reportedly is having doubts on the idea of a sequel. According to Upprox, she was honest with how she felt about sequels when was asked if she would be interested with Edge of Tomorrow 2, while promoting her new film Sicario. Blunt said, "I would for sure! But the idea would have to be good; it would just have to be a great idea. I don't want to dilute how great the first one is with a second one that's not as good. I'm terrified of sequels, to be honest with you."
The good news is that her honesty does not necessarily mean that there won't be a second movie. It also doesn't mean that she won't be in it. However, we do understand where Emily Blunt is coming from. Why ruin something that isn't broken? Sequels are indeed terrifying. We certainly don't want to see a sequel that would turn out to be a major flop.
