79-year-old Man Shot Dead In His Brooklyn Home Leave Police Baffled

A 79-year-old was shot dead in his own Bushwick home, according to Inquistr.

The New York City authorities are questioning how the elderly man living in a Brooklyn apartment could have been fatally struck by a bullet in the middle of the night.

The victim, James Jackson, lived with a woman with mysterious relations. According to police, they received reports the woman could be his wife or his girlfriend.

The New York Daily News reported the woman was blind and therefore couldn't immediately recognize her partner had been shot. Police told reporters Jackson was discovered struck with the bullet in the neck at 2:25 a.m.

When the woman found him, he was not responding, that 's when she called the police to their 1091 Gates Avenue residence in Brooklyn.

Jackson's neighbor was shocked at the crime and told New York Daily News, "she said she couldn't wake him up ... He was lying on the couch slumped over. It's horrible."

The neighbor didn't reveal her last name, but said Jackson's partner woke her in the middle of the night and said, "Joyce could you come down here, I can't wake up Tyrone', he was laying in the couch in a puddle of blood."

Jackson was taken to the Woodhull Hospital, reported CBS, and pronounced dead by the police. The station reported the victim could have been shot before 2:25 p.m., and another neighbor, Eric Turner, told CBS that Jackson could have been hit even as early as midnight because he tried to get in touch with Jackson but couldn't find him, which the neighbor thought was odd.

"I went last night to get a cigarette from him so I knocked on the door, but I didn't get no answer," Turner said to CBS.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities have no suspects at the moment or how and why the shooting occurred at the residence.
