Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Specs & Release Date: Device Confirmed for Oct. 6 Launch With New Lumia Phones; Can It Beat the Apple iPad Pro?

Microsoft will be announcing their newest innovations during the Windows 10 Device Launch Event on October 6, and among the devices that are expected to be part of the launch are the Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950, and Lumia 950 XL.

According to Tech Times, the launch will be held at the Skylight in Moynihan Station in New York. The source also says that the prior launch in IFA Berlin was a huge disappointment in terms of turnout, but the Surface Pro 3 still stood ground and garnered success. Because of this, there are high hopes with the Surface Pro 4.

The new Surface 4 Pro might not be too different in terms of design, since Microsoft has taken into consideration the businesses that have invested in charging stations. Rumored updates include a fingerprint scanner, a higher resolution display, and a smaller and lighter design. Microsoft is also rumored to release a 14-inch version of the tablet to possibly compete with the iPad Pro.

With this in mind, The Motley Fool says that they don't necessarily believe that the tablet market isn't a long-term venture for both Apple and Microsoft, but Microsoft isn't particularly offering anything groundbreaking compared with Apple's tables either. If this was supposed to be a bold move on the company's end, it has reportedly failed to position itself as such. The source also says that there are no major indications that the Surface has made its mark in IT companies who still prefer using laptops, and although this might pose an opportunity for Apple, they still don't believe that they will make an impact in these markets as well.

When it comes to the new smartphones, Neurogadget has the complete specs for both Lumia 950 and 950 XL. Rumors say that the 950 XL will have "Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor which will be backed by 3GB of RAM," while the 950 "will Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which will be backed by 3GB of RAM." The smaller phone will have a 5.2-inch screen, and the XL will have a 5.7-inch one. The source also says that these two might be joined by a "budget smartphone" Lumia 550 in the launch.
