Xbox One Backwards Compatibility List: 'Halo: Reach' Teased

Die-hard fans and gamers of "Halo: Reach" will soon be able to play the video game in Xbox One someday. The news comes after Microsoft Xbox head Phil Spencer has hinted via Twitter that he is considering the 2010 Xbox 360 video game to be playable in Xbox One through backwards compatibility, Gamespot reported on Monday.

"The user asked if Reach might be added to Halo: The Master Chief Collection (like Halo 3: ODST was) or if it might get its own 'Anniversary' edition similar to Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. But Spencer didn't respond to these points, instead suggesting it's more likely to come via backwards compatibility," the report said.

Spencer's announcement has drawn mixed reactions from avid players of the video game. In a Reddit forum, gamers believe that the proposed plan to include "Halo: Reach" in the backward compatibility program is an indicator that the company is "moving back to a multiplayer style more in line with the original trilogy."

"It might be because for Halo 5's multiplayer, they're getting rid of loadouts and moving back to a multiplayer style more in line with the original trilogy. Introducing a remaster of Halo Reach, with it's more 'COD-ified' multiplayer, so close to the release of Halo 5 might segment the community, and keep Halo fans who prefer the (ableit reduced) load out system and more generous XP system from moving to Halo 5 when it releases this Fall. Alternatively, while Halo Reach was pretty well-reviewed game when it came out it, it doesn't have the same enduring fandom held by other games in the series, so it might just not be worth the effort," said a Reddit user named Pterodactylic as posted in the forum.

Another Reddit user named Almorea said: "Its kind of a confirmation. It was planned because halo reach is one of the top 10 voted titles (which honestly I don't see why they haven't added reach to MCC yet) but anywho. I think they're just adding most populated titles to the emulation (not all titles) just the most popular. Which is kind of crap too. But I mean, the Xbox 360 had it. Almost all the original Xboxes games worked with it. But there were a select few that were left out unfortunately."

WCCF Tech reports that Microsoft's Spencer has also hinted back in August that "Lost Odyssey," and "Blue Dragon" will likely be included in the backward compatibility program. He further claims that the company is set to launch the complete list of Xbox One backwards compatibility this November.
