The New York City apartment of the late socialite Carroll Petrie has been listed on the open market with an asking price of $30 million, according to Mark David of Variety. Located on the tenth floor of the high end apartment house in 834 Fifth Avenue, it served as a long-time residence of the philanthropist. It is also presumed that the spread is being sold by the executors of the socialite's estate. The New York Post estimates it to be $100 million worth with the inclusion of her furs, couture and jewel collection.
The floor area of the apartment is estimated to be 4,200-square-feet with two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. While the place is that spacious, David describes it as "not particularly family friendly and adheres to a rigorous formal layout "where three public rooms are flanked by a bedroom wing and service and staff quarters. Designer David Easton did a blend of old school elegance with comfortable and slightly fussy decoration for the space. The octagonal foyer is lined up completely with mirrored panels and leads to an almost 34-foot long marble floored reception hall that is lined with architectural elements creating visual illusions, inset bookcases flanked by sconce and doors adorned with stately pediments.
The formal living room is big enough to accommodate different seating areas. It boasts of a lemon chiffon - colored walls, enhanced with dado, hefty dentil ceiling moldings, marble-faced fireplace and three over-sized sash windows which gives one a majestic view of the Central Park. The dining room has pink walls and it could have served three purposes with an impressive and expensive looking secretary desk on one of its walls, cocktails and a cozy sofa for casual snacks on the other.
A butler's pantry, a lot larger than many of the kitchens in New York is the link of the dining room to the almost all white kitchen which is filled with high-quality appliances and features counters with flannel grey stone tops and classic blank and white checkered floor. This kitchen leads to a small breakfast room and a small terrace that faces east and is perfect for tea during sunrise and smokes at late night. Behind the kitchen is a two-level staff wing that has three small bedrooms which share one hall bathroom and a bigger room with a private bathroom. In another part of the building is a fifth staff suite, laundry room, storage bin and a wine vault.
