Original 'Ghostbusters' Ernie Hudson Joins All-Female Squad of New 'Ghostbusters' Movie

An original "Ghostbuster" reportedly came to the set of Paul Feig's all-female reboot of the 1984 hit "Ghostbuster."

In October of last year, 68-year-old Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the 1984 movie, reportedly called the idea of an all-female reboot of "Ghostbusters" a "bad idea" when Paul Feig confirmed on Twitter that he was making a new Ghostbusters movie.

In an interview with The Telegraph, he said, "If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and it's all female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters? I love females. I hope that if they go that way at least they'll be funny, and if they're not funny at least hopefully it'll be sexy. I love the idea of including women, I think that's great."

"But all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don't think the fans want to see that," he continued. "Maybe it will come out and be the most amazing thing, but in my opinion I think it would be wrong to do another movie that didn't include the guys. And that didn't include me!"

Early this year, Hudson reportedly had a change of heart. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said, "Four fiercely funny, foxy, females busting ghosts ... phenomenal!" If this was some sort of apology for what he has previously said then Paul Feig must have accepted it because he has decided to include the original ghostbuster in his film. In addition, Feig himself took to Twitter on Saturday to thank the actor for his involvement, "Thanks to the great @Ernie_Hudson for joining us on our last day of production. He is a class act and an incredibly talented and funny man."

It is unclear yet whether Hudson will reprise his role in the new "Ghostbusters" movie or if he will have an entirely different role, according to Vanity Fair. The four female ghostbusters will be played by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. The new "Ghostbusters" is set to be released in theaters on July 22, 2016.
