Derek Fisher has reached a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder to be signed on for the remainder of the season, according to various media reports.
Fisher, 38, signed his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, a source told ESPN news. He has spent more than 12 of his 17 pro seasons with the Lakers, winning five championships alongside Kobe Bryant.
Fisher started the season with the Dallas Mavericks but asked for his release in December after nine games so he could spend more time with his family in Los Angeles after he suffered a knee injury.
He averaged 6.3 points and 1.3 assists in 20 playoff games for the Thunder last season.
Fisher has remained president of the National Basketball Players Association, which recently ousted Billy Hunter as its executive director.
"The recovery time [from the knee injury] will be approximately two weeks. With this news and the difficulty I have been having being away from my family, I have asked the organization to waive me so I can return home," Fisher said in December after being released from the Mavericks.
"[Mavericks owner] Mark Cuban has been extremely supportive and has granted me this request. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. From Mark, to Coach [Rick] Carlisle, to the players on the Mavericks' team, I sincerely thank them for the opportunity.
