The Palm Springs residence of late actor/comedian/producer, Bob Hope, has hit the listing market with an asking price of $50 million.
In November 2012, it was rumored that the home was put up for sale for $45 million.
The mushroom shaped residence that is currently on the market was designed by starchitect, James Lautner. Completed in 1980, the home was built to look like a volcano. The residence has a tiered visor like structures and a concrete roof that has a hole in the center that opens up to the sky and a courtyard below, reports New York Times.
The residence is spread across an area of 23,366 square feet and has six bedrooms and ten full and three half bathrooms. The home also offers both indoor and outdoor pools. A huge boulder juts out of the center of the living room. The place provides for beautiful views of the Coachella Valley, the San Jacinto Mountains and the city of Palm Springs. A tennis court, and stretching green lawns with a pond are also some of its outdoor features, reports Curbed.
According to LA Observed, the home was basically used by Bob and Dolores Hope to entertain guests. It was more like a vacation or leisure home. Linda Hope, daughter of the couple recalls the parties and huge buffets that were laid out on the terraced patio. Each January, the Hopes threw a bash to celebrate the end of the Bob Hope Classic Golf Tournament that is now called "The Human Challenge"
In December 2012, Zillow reported that a couple of Hope parcels were on the listing market. One was a three bedroom-three bathroom Spanish style ranch with a price tag of $469,000, while the other was a five bedroom-seven bathroom gated property listed at $659,000, both located in the Movie Colony area of Palm Springs.
Bob passed away at the age of 100 in 2003 at his Toluca Lake home in Los Angeles. Dolores Hope passed away at the age of 102 in 2011.
Hope was the quintessential epitome of "Funny". He was one of the best Oscar hosts. Specially with the Oscar trivia effects still wearing off, his famous one liners are memorably recalled by critics and entertainment lovers all around the world.
