There is always that adventurous side to man, this is why people enjoy going bungee jumping, riding a zip-line, going mountain or rock climbing, and riding rollercoasters. But there are those who prefer to take on the quest for a longer term by having their homes built on the edge of a cliff and take on the adventure every single day. Pauline Morrissey of Stuff has identified nine of the most amazing cliff-top houses in the different parts of the world.
1. Two-storey cliff house in Nova Scotia, Canada
Built as a family week end getaway this project by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects features a steel and timber frame. The location gives that illusion of floating over the ocean and therefore makes a perfect retreat by the seaside.
2. Fortress-like house in Tunquen, Chile
The home is designed by Gubbins Arquitectos and found in between lush green fields and the deep blue ocean. As it is elevated , it gives a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and a rocky shoreline.
3. Lukka Vuerich Hut in Foronon Buinz, Julian Alps
It is a cozy hut designed by architect Giovanni Pesamosca in honor of a dead climber, Luka Vuerich. The place has nine beds and provides refuge for those who frequent the mountains for free.
4. The Till House in Navidad, Chile
The home, designed by WMR Arquitectos , has a living room, kitchen, dining room and two bedrooms. It is built on a 200 metre high, a hard-to access cliff, thereby offering privacy and a great location for a weekend getaway.
5. The Steel House in Ransom Canyon Lake, Texas, USA
The house was created by architect and sculptor Robert Bruno originally as part residence and part piece of sculpture. It is made up of 110 tons of steel.
6. House 205 in Northern Spain
The house was designed by Barcelona-based Harquitectes on top of a steep canyon. At the start, the project seemed unfit but the team which made it decided to dig deeper and have the structure placed on top of the rock under the land.
7. Fall House in Big Sur, California
This house which sits on the edge of a cliff and overlooking the ocean was designed by Fourgeron Architecture as long and narrow volume for a better advantage of the breathtaking sceneries.
8. Concept Cliff House
Constructed by an Australian architectural firm Modscape, it hangs from a cliff, instead of sitting on top of one. The daringly designed structure was inspired by barnacles hanging off a ship's hull. It features a three-bedroom home that is anchored to a sheer cliff face.
9. Casa Malaparte House in Capri, Punta Massullo, Italy
The house is a collaboration between architect Adalberto Libera and owner and writer Curzio Malaparte. It is dubbed as "the 20th century's most beautiful house," highlighted by its majestic views and peach stone trails.
