The "world's first sandcastle hotel" is now open. In line with the Sand Sculpture Festival in Dutch cities Oss and Sneek, Zand Hotel was built, which is literally made up of sand. Global PowWow, the festival organizers, is the one that built the unique albeit temporary hotel.
NTNews.com.au reports that the "delightful hotel," dubbed Zand or Sand Hotel, features two buildings with thin walls which are covered with reinforced sand to keep the structure sturdy against rain or wind. People who are interested to stay in the unique hotel can book a room hidden inside the sand sculptures from $170 to $235.
According to News8, the two hotels each has different theme: one is modeled after Bedrock, the famous town of Flintstones, while the other invokes the Great Wall of China with its Terracota Warriors and dragons.
The literal sandcastle offers suites with the usual creature comforts, including electricity and running water, along with free WiFi. Guests are also served breakfast and fresh fruit in the rooms. Those who book a stay in the hotel also get a tour of the Sand Sculpture Festival.
Unfortunately, according to NTNews, Zand Hotel is already booked out. The "temporary pop-ups" will only be there until October, when the Sand Sculpture Festival ends. The festival is specifically observed in various cities in Netherlands such as Sneek, Friesland, Oss and Brabant.
Those who wish to experience the unique hotel but failed to book a room still have a chance to catch the sandcastles next year as the organizers are reportedly planning to reopen the hotels for the same festival. There are also plans to open similar hotels in Germany and the UK, according to the report.
