Het Arresthuis Transforms From Prison To Luxury Hotel (PHOTOS)

Het Arresthuis contained some of Hollands notorious prisoners for nearly 150 years, now it's been converted into a luxury hotel, reported The Daily Mail.

The hotel still bears and eerie resemblance to a jailhouse, but you would be surprised by how far it's come to look this good.

Here's a link to photos taken inside the Het Arresthuis.

The Het Arresthuis was one of Netherlands' most feared prisons for inmates since it opened in 1862. The 105 prison cells have now has been remodeled and redesigned into 40 rooms that include 24 standard corridors, 12 deluxe rooms and four suites, appropriately named The Jailer, The Lawyer, The Director and The Judge.

The interior and hall design is a big transformation from the prison quarters. It's well-lit with vibrant lights and contemporary furniture and pillows. It's hard to imagine this is something many people are paying big bucks to stay during getaways.

The Mail reported that all the spacious rooms are fully equipped with air conditioning, a flat screen television and free WiFi. It also includes the usual amenities of personal coffee and tea machines.

The Het Arresthuis still showcases a lot of prison bars, but a large homey, dining hall could immediately take away that anguish. The jail operated until 1998, when it was abadoned until it reopened in 2002. Construction of the hotel began in 2007.

To many locals on the western side of Netherlands, the Het Arresthuis was also called "bolletjesbajes" which translates to stuffer's prison.

The luxury hotel also includes a gym and the Roermond area attract many visitors for cycling, hiking and nature walks in National Reserve de Meinweg. Nearby, the city offers an escape to shops and the Designer Outlet Center.

You could even go out into the smaller villages like the town of Thorn. The hotel is almost two hours from the Amsterdam Schipol airport, so you could even make a stop during a layover.
