Microsoft Band 2, a refresh from the company's first wearable device, is rumored to be released as alleged render images were leaked to the Internet.
The image has a curved display and metallic body sides, MicrosoftInsider.es. Band 2 is said to come with many improved sensors that include GPS, microphone, ambient light sensor, UV sensor, accelerator, and galvanic skin response sensors. As seen in the image, it shows that the device will still have a two-button setup like its predecessor.
Band 2 would run on Windows 10 IoT, a variant of the company's latest operating system that is designed to fuel Internet of Things gadgets, Gadgets 360 NDTV reported.
Codenamed "Envoy," the design elements of Band 2 is similar to Samsung's Gear Fit device, according to MicrosoftInsider. The new design of the band is more comfortable to use with an all-curved construction and metal accents. The rendered images also show that it used a different type of clasp which is considered an upgrade from the previous pinch-prone closure.
Like the original Band, it also has a long, rectangular touch screen with two buttons on the edge. Rumors said that it would come with an upgraded sensor that includes an altimeter for height-change detection. It is also said that it has a Starbucks partnership where one can pay for their drinks through a Starbucks card connected to the band.
The Microsoft Band which was first released, was useful for getting shaped as it featured an array of Guided Workouts. Users could download short and lengthy training sessions from companies like Shape Magazine and Gold's Gym, while it tracks the user's progress. This feature made the Microsoft Band stand out from Fitbits and Jawbones with a similar function. It is hoped that the Guided Workouts feature will be upgraded on the second-generation Band, according to Ars Technica.
More details and specs of the device will be revealed on Microsoft's even on Oct. 6 in New York. Aside from the Microsoft Band 2, Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL are also rumored to be released on the same date.
