'Xiaomi Mi 4C' Release Date, Features, Specs and Price: Launched In Multiple Colors, Snapdragon 808 Processor

Xiaomi released the Mi 4C smartphone on Sept. 22 at an event in China. The Xiaomi Mi 4C is equipped with 16GB model, 2GB RAM and is priced at RMB 1,299 ($204) while the 32GB model with 3GB RAM costs RMB 1499 ($235), Mobile Indian reported.

The new device has a 5-inch display with full HD (1920x1080 pixels) resolution. It runs on Snapdragon 808 processor, Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with MIUI 7 interface. The phone weighs 132 grams and measures 138.1 x 69.6 x 7.8mm. The rear camera is at 13 megapixels while its front camera is 5 megapixels with an 85-degree lens which can accommodate at least six to seven subjects. It also has a 3080mAh battery, and 4G connectivity.

The smartphone makes use of Edge Tap technology, which according to Xiaomi is their own patented technology. This feature "allows the handset to perform different assigned functions with a single tap and double tap on the edges of the handset," Gadgets 360 NDTV wrote. With this technology, one can tap on the edge once to click an image and return to a previous page by double tapping it.

Another notable feature of this new Xiaomi flagship is its availability in multiple colors that includes black, blue, orange, pink, and white. Speaking of design, the new phone is starkly similar to the Mi 4i, that was launched in India last year. The phone's display is also similar to Mi 4i, India Today reported.

Xiaomi’s MI 4C’s packaging box and handset are packed in an orange box, which was first seen in leaked images a day prior to its release. At the back of the phone is its rear camera and flash that bears the MI logo.

An important consideration in the phone is its ability to accommodate two SIM cards. It also comes with an IR blaster and accompanying software that allows its users to turn the phone into a remote control.

Xiaomi was asked about what the letter "c" on the product name stands for. But the company is being coy, leaving users to speculate that it might stand for China, or the variety of colors the device is offered, or the USB-C connector, which is a promising feature for the future of cables, The Verge reported.

Xiaomi operates in India under the brand name Mi. After launching the Mi 4i in India, it is also expected that Mi 4C will also be released in India after its release in China.

Xiaomi's new flagship Android smartphone can be bought from China's Mi.com and Tmall from Sept. 23.
