‘The Conjuring 2’ Update: Filming has Started, First Set Photos Released

James Wan, the director of Furious 7, revealed on his Twitter and Instagram accounts that principal photography has started on 'The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist.' The production place is still to be known, but the director is hopeful that more images will be shared from the set as shooting continues.

According to Movie Web, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who starred in 2013's The Conjuring, will be returning as Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren. The thriller was a box office hit that took in $137.4 million locally and $318 million worldwide, from just a production budget of $20 million. Frances O'Connor will join the cast for this horror sequel, reportedly to portray a mother whose daughter is being haunted by supernatural forces. Shannon Cook-Chun and Jennifer Collins are part of the supporting cast.

Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes will be writing The Conjuring 2, with director James Wan producing alongside Rob Cowan and Peter Safran. It isn't known yet how long the production will last, but updates will be posted as shooting continues.

The release date for The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist was already set by New Line Cinema on June 10, 2016, which will put the sequel up against Lionsgate's 'Now You See Me 2: The Second Act' along with Universal's highly-anticipated video game adaptation 'Warcraft.' With the start of production this month, director James Wan has less than nine months to complete photography and post-production.

Coming Soon reported that Warner Bros. Pictures has announced the release date of 'The Conjuring 2' on Oct. 23, 2015. WB also set the date this Oct. 3 for their spin-off of the 'The Conjuring,' formerly titled 'Annabelle.' Additionally, they also announced the release date of 'How To Be Single,' starring Lily Collins, on Feb. 12, 2016.

'How To Be Single' will contend with Illumination Entertainment's Untitled Pets Project and Alex Proyas' Gods of Egypt, while the untitled spin-off will see release opposite David Fincher's 'Gone Girl.'
