"Bachelor in Paradise" is back on the headlines as news emerged that the whole engagement was actually staged. As per Celeb Dirty Laundry, during the "Bachelor in Paradise" finale, Tanner Tolbert got down on his knee and proposed to Jade Roper. Roper then accepted his offer, making them the most recent couple to get engaged during the reality TV series.
Since they're already engaged, fans can't help themselves but questioned on how much they were paid. Rumors then emerged that "The Bachelorette" and "Bachelor in Paradise" are being paid for the TV network to "exploit their relationship and get married".
Both Roper and Tolbert stated that they were offered at least $88,000 if they will stay together as a couple for two years. On top of the cash prize, they are also entitled to own a Neil Lane engagement ring. As per the duo, they will get to keep the ring as long as they would stay together for two years. If the couple would break up however, they would return the ring to the jeweler as per their contract.
During their interview with TMZ Jade Roper then stated: "ABC owns it for two years, and after that, if we're still together, we keep it... Or until we get married."
The International Business Times however stated that it seem impossible for the couple to wait for a television wedding. During one of his interviews of HuffPost Podcast, Chris Harrison, the host stated:
"I don't think we can make it to next summer, I don't think they'll wait for us. Obviously with Marcus and Lacy, the timing worked out. I don't know if Jade and Tanner will make it ... I think they are champing at the bit to get married, so it might be a race to the altar."
Roper accepted the engagement offer just three weeks after being together on the show. Tolbert then told People: "But when you're there and you spend so much time together from the get-go, three weeks is like nine months of real dating."
