Horizon: Zero Dawn is a single player, role-playing, action-adventure game developed by Guerrilla Games exclusively for PlayStation 4.
Horizon: Zero Dawn was first revealed at E3 this year. In an interview with Polygon, Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony Computer Entertainment's head of worldwide studios, has revealed that this was his biggest announcement and it also made him nervous because the lead character in the game is a young woman and he did not know how the people would react.
"As an industry, I think we should continue to make efforts to have more females in studios on the development side and to get different perspectives," he said. "Games have become more and more popular in terms of who plays, especially in terms of mobile. We have a chance to further increase the reach, from a PlayStation standpoint, to a bigger more diverse audience. In order for us to do that, the games we create have to appeal to a broader audience."
And this woman protagonist is named "Aloy". According to IBT, Alloys' weapon is a simple bow and arrow a primitive weapon to combat mechanical enemies. This means that a player needs to carefully come up with a strategy to win battles. Therefore there will be lots of hunting and sneaking around. But the best part of the game is the setting which is a huge primitive world with lots of areas to explore and remnants of an advanced but extinct civilization.
A video was reportedly recorded during its demo at the Tokyo Game Show and has been leaked online. According to Techno Buffalo, despite the poor video quality, it was clear enough to see how the gorgeous the game would have been on stage.
No official release date has been announced yet, but Horizon: Zero Dawn reportedly will be released in 2016. What do you think about having more female protagonists in video games?
