‘Attack on Titan: End of the World’ Movie Review: Film Damages Good Name of the Manga as Critics and Fans Alike Respond Negatively to the Live Action Movie

When the first installment of the live-action "Attack On Titan" film came out, it was attacked by negative criticisms that was labeled as poor and a hated movie adaptation. It really wasn't too late to redeem the good name of the manga and anime, for a second one was scheduled to come out. However, as the film premiered, there weren't many who had high hopes for the movie and series anymore.

The day came when "Attack On Titan: End of the World" debuted in Japan and some parts of Asia and sufficed to say, disappointment was felt throughout. The frustration was perhaps doubled as critics say the movie has abandoned its promise, neglected its plot, and gave a shorter running time which compromised some aspects of the film.

A movie critic from Rappler says that the "Attack On Titan: End of the World" was nothing much compared to its first installment. The movie, however, wasn't a total mess because it had one good moment, which was "when human beings were turned into bloody goo by giants with perpetual smiles on their familiar faces." It seems that the movie simply is a venue of showcasing grotesque catastrophe done by flesh-eating Titans. "Whatever plot that frames its gregarious display of destruction and dismemberment is elementary at best." To put it succinctly, the movie simply "succumbs to the necessity of plot."

Scified states that it had high hopes for the second film of "Attack On Titan." However, that hope was a let down as the review of the next installment was filled with complaints against the special effects badly criticized with the acting plus critiques of the movie straying away from the source material.

Kotaku's review, on the other hand, focuses also on the running time, characters, bad acting, and ludicrous plot element. Thus, the review ends it by saying that overall, the movie was dull and boring, "That's probably this movie's biggest crime." The only redeeming element of "Attack On Titan: End of the World" is the ending theme song. Kotaku says that it is too bad that the second film was not better than the first and that the filmmakers fail to improve the "AoT."
