Choreographer and Former ‘Scandal’ Star Columbus Short Pleads No Contest to Assault; Actor won’t be Going to Jail but will Face a Three-Year Probation

Columbus Short, a former ABC's 'Scandal' star and a one-time choreographer for Britney Spears, pleaded to an amended felony count of assault likely to cause great bodily injury last Thursday.

According to the prosecutor, Short sucker-punched a man after a dispute in Gabe's Bar and Grill. The man was rendered unconscious by the punch of Short.

The 33 year-old star won't be facing any jail time but Los Angeles County Superior Judge Leslie Brown sentenced the actor to three years' probation along with 60 days of community labor. Short is also required to attend 26 anger management classes.

This is not the first time that the choreographer-actor faced trial. According to the Los Angeles Times, Short was arrested in July 2008 for driving under influence of alcohol.

He was also arrested last July 19, 2010 on suspicion of battery with great bodily injury and later for failing to appear on a court case. Short was convicted of disturbing the peace and placed on three years' probation.

In an interview with Access Hollywood last year, Short admitted of substance abuse.

"I'll be candid. I was struggling with drugs, I had a lot on my plate, and you know, I was using unhealthy ways to kind of self-medicate and deal with a lot of heavy duty stuff in my life." Short told the show.

He admitted that he succumbed to 'real drugs' like cocaine and began drinking alcohol heavily to "balance a 16-hour work schedule a day, and a family, and, I just lost myself back then."

In a report from the People, Short's wife, Tuere Tanee Short, filed a divorce after his arrest last year and was also granted a temporary restraining order for Short.

April of last year, Short has announced that he won't be coming back for the fourth season of 'Scandal'.
