"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 premiered on Thursday night with the episode titled "Sledgehammer." What fans immediately noticed is the fact that Season 12 kicked off with a much lighter and less serious tone.
In the episode, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) could be seen talking to Maggie (Kelly McCreary), who is one of her new housemates at Ellis Grey's home.
"Why don't I learn? I take in strays because they're sad and lonely and homeless. The truth is, strays are flea-ridden creatures who pee on your stuff," she said.
Meanwhile, executive producer Shonda Rhime recently opened up about Meredith's fate in Season 12.
In an interview with E! News, she said, "I have not planned to introduce a new love interest for her and that's not really the focus of what we're doing with her right now. Meredith is in a rebirth and she's evolving. I'm watching the character do what the character's doing and I'll see where it goes."
In other news, fans of "Grey's Anatomy" are hoping Rhimes would consider re-inviting Sandra Oh to appear on the show. Back in Season 10, Oh's character Cristina Yang left the series to pursue other work opportunities elsewhere. Following her exit, fans realized how much of a great loss the character was, especially because of her friendship with Meredith.
Just recently, Oh spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her possible return to the ABC series. According to her, she also felt that it was the right time to let Cristina go.
"I told her I was going to go at the end of season nine and we didn't really talk about how Cristina would exit until the back-half of season 10," she said.
Fans are awaiting news on Oh's possible return to the series.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
