Kate Winslet Divorce: Actress Opens Up About Lessons Learnt

Kate Winslet opened up about her divorce to director Sam Mendes during a recent interview with Harper Bazaar U.K. and said the divorce has made her stronger and given a lot of material to draw from for future acting roles.

"I've really learnt a great deal about myself, in the last four years in particular," the Oscar-winning actress told the magazine, according to the Daily Mail. The couple got divorced in 2010 after seven years together. They have an 8-year-old son, Joe, and she has a 12-year-old daughter, Mia, from her first marriage to director Jim Threapleton.

"I think I can see more clearly now - about how the pattern of past experiences has shaped who I am and the characters I have played - and I'm grateful for that."

Winslet ended her second marriage to director Sam Mendes in 2010, said that changes in her personal life have actually informed her work.

"I have so much more material to draw on for work -- rubble, bricks -- and I know I can carry it now," Winslet said. "I'm not going to drop it, and if I do, I'll sift through it. Does that make any sense at all? Probably not..."

Winslet is now married for the third time with Virgin Galactic executive Ned Rocknroll. They secretly wed on Necker Island, a private Caribbean island owned by Sir Richard Branson, Rocknroll's uncle.

The interview with Winslet will appear in the April issue of Harper's Bazaar UK.
