Tom Cruise Files $50 Million Lawsuit Against Life & Style and In Touch Magazine

Tom Cruise filed a $50 million lawsuit against Life & Style and In Touch magazines' parent company Bauer Publishing that said the actor abandoned Suri, his 6-year-old daughter, after Cruise divorced Katie Holmes, reported The Huffington Post.

The star of the "Mission Impossible" franchise vehemently denied the accusations and is going to great lengths to sue the publishing industry.

But the report of the lawsuit is likely to be held behind closed doors. According to TheWrap, the Cruise-Bauer mediation will be conducted privately.

Its been months since Cruise was accused, and after bickering, the papers were finally filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court in Central California, reported the United Press International.

The tabloids have stand by what they wrote. Bert Fields, Cruise's lawyer, said he "talks to [Suri] every day, sometimes many times a day."

"It's just the opposite of what they said in the magazine," Fields said in an interview with E! News. "They are together all the time. He is a very caring father, and that is at the heart of this lawsuit."

The papers also indicate that if the parties do not settle on a trial date, they will have to settle for April 29, 2014.

The magazine cover featured pictures of Suri in tears, and Cruise's lawyers said the whole story painted a "vicious" lie.

However, the Bauer lawyers were not going down with out a proper fight. Last month, they said the story was "substantially true," and followed with a request of more information about Cruise's relationship with his daughter. Some of the information included revealing Suri's mental and emotional status after the divorce.

To many, it seemed the publishing company wanted to expose Cruise's dedication to the Church of Scientology and how it played a role in the breakdown of his relationship with daughter and the visitations and even if the institution played a larger role in the decision-making process. The Bauer team is also seeking past lawsuits filed against Cruise, as well.
