iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Camera Comparison

With the release of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, it features the new Retina Flash that intelligently illuminates the display to serve as a flash for selfies, Apple Insider reported. The new Apple devices camera are commonly compared to that of the Samsung Galaxy S6.

The new iPhones has higher resolution 5MP FaceTime sensor front camera, which is a major jump for last year's iPhone 6 with mere 1.2MP. Its rear iSight camera has a dedicated LED flash, perfect for taking selfies on areas that are poorly lighted, with 12MP image sensor. As for the Galaxy S6, it has 16MP sensor resolution for the rear camera and also 5MP for the front camera.

Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus share the same lens with a wide-angle of f/2.2 aperture. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has an f/1.9 lens capturing a little bit more light. The new iPhones has a 4:3 ratio, similar to a standard definition TV while the Galaxy S6 has a 16:9 aspect ratio like an HDTV or widescreen monitor.

In an camera test by PC Mag, the result shows that the iPhone 6s produce the sharpest images while the Galaxy S6 has the weakest sharpness of the three. As for the ISO performance, iPhone 6s sensor starts at ISO 25, the iPhone 6 Plus at ISO 32, and the Galaxy S6 at ISO 100. Noise isn't an issue for the three phones and all of them produce pictures with ample amount of detailing.

"On the whole, these are two fantastic cameras. If taking photos in more challenging lighting conditions is something you value more, the S6 is for you. For a combination of simplicity and image quality, the iPhone 6 is the one to go for. Either way, these are two phone cameras that won't let you down," Trusted Reviews wrote, adding that if you are into selfies, the Samsung Galaxy 6s is a good option in terms of its front-facing camera.
