'Mistresses' Renewed for Season 4, Spoilers, Casts: Jennifer Esposito Not Returning, Joss and Harry Happy Ending?

"Mistresses," an ABC drama series was officially confirmed to be renewed for its fourth season. The series is about four female friends and their illicit encounters, based on a U.K. series by Lowri Glain and S.J. Clarkson, Variety reported.

Executive producers Rina Mimoun and K.J. Steinberg said that the "Mistresses" isn't "dead in the water" and added that there has been some interest in the show, reported International Business Times.

Jennifer Esposito, who replaced Alyssa Milano in Season 3, will no longer return as fashion designer Calista Raines, since she only signed a one-year contract with Blue Bloods when she boarded "Mistresses" last year. At present, Esposito is recurring on "The Affair."

In the season 3 finale of "Mistresses," it ended on a major cliffhanger as Wilson (Jarod Joseph) dressed as Calista, held Joss (Jes Macallan) at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Calista (Jennifer Esposito) was seen contemplating suicide while sitting on her prison cell.

Show runner Mimoun said that they might add another woman to shake up the lives of Joss, Karen (Yunjin Kim) and April (Rochelle Aytes).

"We would love to invite Jennifer back for as many episodes as she's willing or able to do, but this was a one-year character for us - at the level she's playing this year," Mimoun said in an interview with TVLine last month. "I mean, we were blown away by her performance, and she brings a certain sparkle, but if we're lucky enough to get a fourth season, we might just want to find a whole different woman to inject into our foursome. We don't want to start with so much baggage for all the other women to get through."

In the upcoming season 4 of the series, Joss and Harry's relationship will be tested, as he accepts a Food Network travel show alongside celebrity chef Rocco Dispirito.

Actress Jess Macallan revealed that despite Harry's busy schedule, her character as Joss, will not give up on their relationship. She said, "He's been there for her, through all the jail stuff. But yeah, it's a lot. With the new job and travelling and sudden stardom -- it ruins everything. So I can't imagine Harry and Joss are going to have an easy go at it," reported Canada.com.

The TV series has been a modest performer with an average of 0.8 in 18-49 ratings for Season 3. In its Season 3 finale, it gained 2.7 million same-night viewers, making it one of the strongest performers throughout summer.

"Mistresses" season 4 is most likely to be premiered in the summer of 2016.
