‘CSI’ Final Episode: ‘Immortality’ a Fitting Title for a TV Show That Truly Endured

"CSI" will finally end after a 15-year run with a two-hour episode tonight.

"CSI" will be laid to rest 15 years after its first episode was aired in 2000. The show that popularized the role of forensics in crime investigation will have a two-hour special goodbye episode that will reunite original cast members like William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger with the show's latest additions Ted Danson, Elisabeth Shue and Elisabeth Harnois. This is according to a report by CNN. The last episode of the series will be named "Immortality" which is an appropriate description of the impact of the show to the current generation of crime shows being shown on TV.

In the same report by CNN, "CSI" was never thought of as a contender when it was initially aired. It was "The Fugitive" TV reboot that was expected to become a hit but after a year, the series about Las Vegas crime lab ranked number 10 and in 2003 was the number one show on television. It was only the entry of "American Idol" that dislodged "CSI" from the ratings' top slot but still it became the most popular in the world in the late 2000s.

It spawned spinoff shows like "CSI: Miami", "CSI: New York," and "CSI: Cyber." There was also an exhibit called "CSI: The Experience" and as proof of its huge effect on viewers, even the justice department has to contend with jury members who expect to see something similar done in real cases which is a very unrealistic expectation to have.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Times reported that actress Jorja Fox who plays "Sara Sidle" on the show and who has been with the show for its entire 15-year run is ready to welcome the uncertainty of life after "CSI." She said in an interview, "I think you kind of have to embrace the unknown if you're an actor."
